‘Art of the Olympics’ at COD’s Marks Center for the Arts Will Feature Works by Actress Jane Seymour, Official Olympic artist Peter Max

PRESS RELEASE:

PALM DESERT, CA— The Social Science and Arts Division at College of the Desert (COD) announces the first exhibit of the spring season at the Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts. Art of the Olympics by various artists will be on display Feb. 15 to Mar. 30, 2006. An opening reception will be held on Feb. 16 beginning at 5 p.m.

This exhibition will feature sculpture, paintings and lithographs which have been created for the USA Olympics by artists such as Jesse Raudales, an official Olympic artist , and actress Jane Seymour. On loan from the collection of Fine Art Limited, located in Chesterfield Missouri, these commissioned works of art bring to life the exceptional athletes of the Olympics, and honor their sports.

This exciting exhibition will be of interest to students; especially those who are athletes, or those who are interested in an arts related career.

The exhibition has been designed to extend the classroom experience into the “real” world of both sports and the arts. While most of the artists represented are well known, several others have been discovered through their work with Fine Art Limited. For their support of emerging artists, Fine Art Limited has been honored with the prestigious Salamanca Art Award for 2005.

We hope you will join us to view these beautiful works. This collection promises to inspire you whether you are a serious art collector, student or an athlete.

All exhibits are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays by appointment. To schedule an appointment call the Gallery at 776-7278.
