Susan Swartz has been painting for over thirty years. She has painted on both American coasts, in southern France and Africa. She was the recipient of the “Mansion Artist of the Year” award by Utah Governor Michael Leavitt. In April 2005 she was invited to be a visiting artist at Harvard Divinity School. In December 2005 she was published in a collectors book by Gibbs Smith titled Painters of the Wasatch Mountains–which illustrates the distinct painting development regarding the American West’s Wasatch Range emergent in the 19th century, succeeding the Hudson River School in the East.

Born in Pittsburgh, Susan inherited her artistic gene from a family of artists and musicians. Early in her career, she was the head of a high school art department in Princeton, New Jersey, where she helped to develop several prominent young artists. Trained in watercolors and oils, she now expresses herself in acrylics on large linen canvases, and has a particular love for landscapes and nature she has experienced. Inspiration comes from the natural world around her. Susan captures that moment of soothing stillness which defines our memories. Her scuba diving experience led to a series on underwater landscapes and wildlife.
