Pierre Henri Matisse was born to artist parents in Paris, France. His father, Jean Matisse, was a sculptor; his mother, Louise Malhau, was a painter, sculptor and ceramist. As the grandson of Henri Matisse, he grew up immersed in the world of art. Pierre's childhood revolved around the artistic life of both Paris and the French Riviera. The Matisse family often moved the "entourage" from one location to another in France and Spain during his early years. He had the opportunity to meet and spend time with some of the most famous artists of our century: Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Aristi De Maillol, Jean Effel, Salvador Dali, Pierre Bonnard, Marcel Dechamp, Fernand Leger, Maurice De Vlaminck and, of course, his own grandfather, Henri Matisse.
